Systems Development Engineer:  Developing and maintaining software for Railway Engineering applications – simulation of electric

trains, power supply and signalling systems. Fortran & C++ on Sun Solaris and Windows 2000/XP. Excel & VBA front end.

 

·         Updated train performance simulator to deadline, removing many serious flaws and improving iteration algorithms.

Senior Software Engineer:  Geophysical applications involving processing, editing and graphical display of well log data.

Fortran, C, C++ on Sun & IBM Unix, Linux, Irix and Windows NT. Porting code from Unix systems to Windows (Visual C++ & Fortran).

Prototyping of graphics using Excel. Meetings with clients to discuss requirements. Presentations and workshops at user group meetings.

Troubleshooting and enhancements to risk management software (Fortran 77 on GE Mark III) used by international banks. Development

Y2K upgrade and porting of dynamic electric railway simulator from Sun Solaris to Windows 95 (Salford Fortran compiler), testing

& amendments. Project completed early in 3 months (7 allowed).

Vax VMS Pascal, Fortran & DCL programming and documentation, for software controlling and analysing large news database

(5 million docs.). Modified parallel processing code on DAP system.

Enhancements and bug fixing for a very large timber roof truss CAD/CAE package (20 Mb source code) using Fortran 90 (Salford)

on a PC. Liaising with a team of programmers and civil engineers.

Dynamic simulation study of condensate kick in drilling rigs – co-authored technical paper with safety consultants. Developing software to

convert complex mathematical formulae to Fortran code.

Modifying PC Fortran software for life insurance valuation & analysis, to process data from ALPS & CAPSIL admin systems, consulting

with actuaries. Code tested and ported to ICL mainframe on target.

Conversion of large Vax VMS Fortran programs (100,000 lines code) to Fortran 77 & porting to PC,  Sun, HP Unix. Development of

machine-portable front end to mimic Dec FMS, using Interacter.
